Museum of Contemporary Art

One of the nation’s largest contemporary art museums… Temporary exhibits include Jim Nutt: Coming Into Character (Jan. 29-May 29) is the first major presentation of the American artist, known for his spare line drawings and detailed paintings of female heads, in over a decade.

International Museum of Surgical Science

There’s nothing ho-hum about Our Body: The Universe Within (through April 30) It integrates over 200 preserved whole-body and organ specimens with artifacts from the museum’s permanent collection to showcase complexity of human body and ingenuity of modern medical technologies.

The Field Museum

The Field Museum focuses on science, environment and culture and is famously home to Sue, the restored and mounted skeleton of the largest and most complete T. rex ever found. Gold (through March 6) celebrates the world’s most prized and rarest of minerals. The Horse (Feb. 16-Aug. 14) explores the profound relationship between horses and humans.

Chicago History Museum

Thinkin’ Lincoln – Get a peek into the life of our 16th President with Chicago History Museum exhibits Abraham Lincoln and Lincoln’s Chicago, which delve into the Illinois native’s rise to the presidency, his leadership during the Civil Wa and his tragic assassination.

Shedd Aquarium and Oceanarium

From frolicking sea otters to sharks and exotic eels, the Shedd is home to an array of fascinating aquatic animals. The renovated Oceanarium features the popular belugas, otters, dolphins and the Fantasea mammal show. Other highlights include the Wild Reef shark habitat and the Caribbean Reef exhibit, where divers hand-feed fish and sharks in a 90,000-gallon aquarium.
