2012 Coffee Fest Chicago Recap

Attendees came from all over the US to take part in the educational offerings, the networking events, experience the Coffee Fest World Latte Art Championship Open and sampled from more than 190 exhibition booths. Once totaled, actual attendance was 1,805. Coffee Fest Exhibitors accounted for an additional 1,056 badges bringing the total attendance to just under 3000.

For the first time ever Coffee Fest attendees and fans determined the awards for best new products. Voting occurred on-line at www.coffeefest.com and the results were announced on Friday afternoon with awards presented as follows:


1st – Kishr – a beverage made from the dried coffee cherry, cinnamon, ginger, and cardamom.

2nd – Fiddleheads Coffee Roasters Papua New Guinea Peaberry

3rd – Two Degrees Food Bars in 4 flavors: Cherry Almond, Apple Pecan, Chocolate Peanut, Chocolate Banana


1st – Visions Espresso Service – Exotic Wood Tampers.

2nd – Perka Inc. – A loyalty app for neighborhood merchants.

3rd – Vessel Drinkware – Americano Tumbler with “360” lid.

Latte Art World Championship

The Coffee Fest Latte Art World Championship Open was an amazing event featuring head to head competitions with 64 phenomenal competitors from all over the US and around the world.

1st place went to: Christopher “Nicely” Alameda of Handsome Coffee Roasters, Venice CA. $2,500

2nd place went to: Kenny Smith of Counter Culture Coffee Sunergos Coffee – Louisville KY. $1,000

3rd Place went to: Nick Van Slett of JP’s Coffee & Espresso – Holland, MI. $500

Coffee Fest Exhibitor Hall of Fame Inductions

Two new members were inducted into the Coffee Fest Exhibitor Hall of Fame at the Opening Night Reception/Schmoozfest at Chicago’s Excalibur Club. Previously this was a list of just 15 elite companies. All had exhibited in 38 of 40 Coffee Fest shows consecutively to gain membership. The two companies inducted in Chicago were:

Astoria and Coffee Shop Manager.

Astoria General Espresso Equipment is a leading espresso equipment company and a subsidiary of CMA of Italy. The Astoria brand has been present in the US for more than 25 years, with thousands of machines installed with a proven record of dependability and economical performance.

Coffee Shop Manager is a point of sale system specifically designed to meet the needs of the specialty coffee retailer. World Class Technology and Customer Service are two of the qualities that set Coffee Shop Manger ahead of the competition.

Both of these amazing companies have exhibited at each of three Coffee Fest shows for the past 13 years.
